The Checklist
First:
- I take the school calendar and the old school magazine, and work out a
series of deadlines first.
- You would need to coordinate who the person responsible for each task
would be, and then follow up on them.
- The list of deadlines is the most important segment, as that ensures the
magazine is completed on time.
Second:
- You and your designer would need to work on a theme and basic
layout/design that the magazine would follow. This should be done by the
end of March at the latest.
- The organization of the magazine would need to be agreed on, often
following the same format as the year before.
Third:
- Editors would need to be organized. I would suggest at least 2 people to edit
each and every article, picture comment etc. This is vital for a professional
magazine. I do a read through and have someone who checks on my work
also, but mistakes do creep in, particularly with names etc.
- Photographers need to be organized for each event or section of the
magazine. It is always better to have too many pictures, as then there is a
variety to select from. However, these pictures need to be sorted through by
the person submitting them to that time is saved. I suggest that for any activity, no more than 20 pictures be sent through, unless it is a major event, which should be limited to the best 50.
- 'Journalists' need to be organized for all sections of the magazine and they
need deadline dates to ensure everything comes in smoothly.
- It is also vital that a collector be appointed, who will go around and make sure that all articles are handed in on time.
These are the main 3 areas that need to be sorted out. Once this is done, it’s simply a
matter of keep up to date with deadlines.
